You have been looking forward to your facial all week, daddy is minding the kids, the dinner is taken care of by the lovely local Chinese take away restaurant and you finally reach the salon on time, already exhausted and are confronted with an extensive consultation form. You’re already in relaxation mode and wonder “IS THIS REALLY NECESSARY?” as you half-heartedly enter your details.
As tedious as this is, it is actually extremely important that you correctly and thoroughly complete a consultation form. Most product lines contain powerful active ingredients, which you may react to. Furthermore, you may not be suitable for a particular product or treatment because of some other product you have recently used, or perhaps because of that little minor operation you had almost forgotten about. You must mention everything. Your therapist may discover from reading and assessing your consultation for that the facial you intended on having is completely wrong for you.
As a therapist who specialised in Laser and I.P.L treatments for some time I unfortunately had to disallow some of my clients have particular treatments. From the consultation form I could see that they were contra indicated for a particular treatment due to medication, or pregnancy, or recent sun exposure etc. Imagine if I had not carried out a detailed consultation form? The results could be extremely damaging.
On a lighter note, giving them details such as your date of birth may mean that come that special day you may receive a small gift in the post. A free lash tint or brow shape etc is quite a common gift from a good salon to a valued client.
Marketing is another aspect to think of. When they ask you things such as your occupation, age group, interests etc. they really are not being noisy? This is often their way of finding out the type of client you are which will allow them to better their services for YOU the client. Again being beneficial for you in the long run. However you can refuse to give such information if you wish.
Having had your treatment, your therapist should then document what treatment you had, what products she used on you, what products or further treatments she has recommended to you etc. This is also useful. You may not wish to purchase the products there and then. If you are anything like me you waft out the door feeling relaxed and at one with yourself. However you may consider purchasing them a couple of days or even weeks later. You will never remember what your therapist has recommended for you on the day but as she has a record of everything on your consultation form, it is easily determined.
So you see there are many reasons for taking the time to correctly fill in the consultation form. I always advise my clients to arrive about 15 minutes early for their appointment. This allows plenty of time to fill out the consultation form, have a drink of water, make a quick visit to the ladies and to relax so as you don’t arrive in a fluster for your appointment.
